FAQs

  • What do I wear? Is there a dress code?
There is no dress code! Anywhere from jeans and a nice top to a suit, tie, or cocktail dress are appropriate. Be comfortable, but choose something that makes you feel good for a night out.
  • Are there any specific etiquette/customs that I might not know about?
You can learn how to enjoy what may be a new experience from the comfort of the concert hall, but here are some specific customs to help you feel prepared. 1. Applause: When you see a piece listed like the example below, the 3 titles listed below the main title, "Violin Concerto", are different movements or parts of the piece. The titles are tempo markings (how fast or slow something should be played). Applause is traditionally held until the very end so as not to disturb the flow of the piece as a whole. Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64 Allegro molto appassionato Andante Allegretto non troppo – Allegro molto vivace 👏 applause👏 If you're attending an opera, this is different! It is customary to clap after a big scene or the end of a musical number. These will be pretty obvious 👍🏼 2. Phones or anything that makes noise: It is important to turn your phone to silent, do not disturb, or if you want to make sure you're totally distraction free, turn that sucker off entirely! *gasp* I know, sounds crazy, but it can be nice to detach yourself from the outside world for a couple of hours. 3. Refrain from talking: Different from a popular music concert, it is customary to refrain from chatting to allow yourself and the people around you to fully engage in the performance. While this may seem restrictive, think of it as an opportunity to connect with the people and musicians in the room just by being present.
  • What are the logistical details?
Transportation: In regards to transportation and/or parking, check the specific event you'll be attending for location, public transit possibilities, and parking options. Arrival: It is best to arrive with enough time to find your way to your seats comfortably. If you're walking in the door with 5-10 minutes to spare and you don't need a pit stop in the bathroom, you're in good shape. If you do arrive after the performance has started, the ushers will show you to your seat at an appropriate time so as not to disturb the performance. Intermission: Most performances will have an intermission for bathroom/stretch your legs breaks about halfway through.
  • How much do tickets cost?
Ticket cost should not prevent you from attending any concert in our series. Each event will have a recommended ticket price but you should free to pay as much as you feel comfortable. This includes $0.
